She has discovered her thumb . . .

I swore I would never use a binky until I realized that my girl is a sucker. We eventually caved. She's a much happier baby for it which makes me a much happier mama.

So, at night we've had trouble with getting her to stay asleep because everytime she loses her binky she gets upset and wants it back. Three nights ago I put her to bed with her binky as always, and she lost it as she often does. I turned to put it back in her mouth, and before i could get it there, she shoved her thumb in her mouth and fell back to sleep with almost no fussing. She'd been attempting to do this for weeks with little success and a lot of frustration. So, for the last few nights she has pretty much put herself to sleep with little extra soothing from me.

It's funny what little things make me proud as a mom. Every new thing she does, every independent new action, is awesome. She's been waking up in the middle of the night just to lift her legs in the air, over and over and over, and even though I am exhausted, I can't complain. She is so excited to do new things; it's amazing, even at 3 in the morning. She grabbed her toes for the first time while I was changing her yesterday, and I got so excited I think I may have scared her a little.

So, my intention with this blog was to post weekly, but it has been sitting here for a couple years now. I keep telling myself I need to just sit down and get to it, but I wanted to start things off with a recap of the last few months, at least, if not years. A "How the Vices got to Texas . . . and started a family" post, but after months and months of procrastination, I have decided that I just need to start writing and stop trying to make up for lost time. I figure I can get the stories in as I go.

So,

. . . here goes nothing
